Applecross Antiques

Applecross Antiques, established in 1975, trading antiques online since 1999. Dealers in the old, the rare and the beautiful.

Alan, of Applecross Antiques, approached me about his website following my work with Shropshire Cat Rescue for their website relaunch earlier in the year.

Alan’s existing website, based upon the Drupal content management system, was no longer serving his needs. Keen to refresh the look and feel, as well as service his customers needs from a more stable platform, Alan’s needs included:

  • Being able to accommodate a massive inventory of antiques, including an historical sales archive
  • Support for multiple languages and multiple currencies
  • Integration with both PayPal and Stripe payment gateways, as well as accepting payment via BACS and cheque
  • Strong search functionality
  • Ongoing WordPress support and maintenance

Utilising Aisling Brock’s extensive design experience and Applecross Antiques’ original branding we created a new WordPress website, using the WooCommerce add-on, that reflected the traditional aesthetic of the antique industry while utilising modern clean lines and use of whitespace. The Applecross website is fully responsive, allowing prospective customers to browse and purchase antiques on any modern device.

Hosted on Clook Internet’s specialised WordPress Hosting based on the LiteSpeed web server software to increase speed & response rates, the Applecross Antiques website is fast, secure and kept up-to-date with a WordPress maintenance package.

Why hire Jem for your WordPress project?

Jem has been unflinchingly helpful with every stage of the development of the Albion site, and has helped us keep it up to date and functioning effectively, solving problems as they have arisen. I am a techno-phobe, but Jem has been unfailingly supportive, helpful, always friendly and efficient. Also her rates seem really good value, but don’t tell her I said so.

We commissioned Jem to create a new school website. We wanted a website which was well ordered, accessible with a simple design and, most importantly, easy to update by various, non technical members of staff.

Jem provided us with really useful design ideas which helped us give her an idea of what we wanted. Jem very quickly produced a new website, which looks very impressive. Jem then provided an excellent training session which enabled us to add our own pages and menus. Throughout the whole process Jem has been quick in answering our many questions and her suggestions have always been very helpful.

We have found Jem to be extremely professional, helpful and supportive and we would thoroughly recommend Jem to any school looking for a new website.

I loved working through the process of developing my website. I concentrated on the words and imagery while Jem did her magic with the technology. I get so many compliments about our website and it’s definitely helped our business to grow quicker than we could have imagined. Being a lot of a technophobe, Jem’s calm assurance is always very much appreciated. I’d really recommend her.

I can’t recommend Jem enough. She was, and still is, a total pleasure to work with. Patient, diligent and best of all, she didn’t blind me with “technical talk” which in itself was a blessing in disguise. She was amazing whilst the site was being built and since the launch has always been on hand if I have needed her. If you are thinking of working with her, all I will say is… “DO IT!”

Why I love working with WordPress

I've been using WordPress since the heady days of version 1.0 and developing WordPress websites commercially since version 1.5 (released in 2005!)
